The debate on legalization

I’ve never been a fan of Russell Brand – and I really struggle with the idea of the legalization of any addictive drug. However, I must say that this article (see link below) makes some really good arguments for it. I have always considered legal consequences to be a major motivator for seeking addiction treatment, because the consequences of addiction are usually the ONLY reason a person with the disease seeks help (the pain of use outweighs the pleasure). So, if we take away a major consequence (legal problems), will less people get the help that they need? Or, by legalizing drugs, do we reduce the stigma and increase the likelihood of a culture of greater awareness? It is a challenging debate. I remain conflicted.
