Here is an interesting article on whether or not AA should keep the anonymity part of the program. Does the rule of anonymity foster continued shame and hiding? Or, is it necessary to insure that the incoming alcoholic/addict seeks help without fear of exposure? You could argue both sides. This article does it well.

Welcome to my blog about addiction. When I use the word addiction, I am referring to any obsessive-compulsive behaviors involving chemical subtances, food, sex, gambling, shopping, exercise, work, the computer/internet, stealing, video games, and other pleasurable behaviors. Although a large portion of the discussion is dedicated to substance addiction, a majority of the information can also be applied to other addictions/compulsions. But, the point is that anything pleasurable can become addictive, and all pleasure involves the neurochemical DOPAMINE. Understanding how this chemical works is key to recovery.
